Organising the whole thing and setting up is a pain for all involved but when you do it with the right people it makes it so much easier.

3. You get the chance to get feedback on your work

Being a painter can be a lonely life, OK not as lonely as Van Gogh must have been in Arles, but still you spend a lot of time on your own, coming up with ideas and trying to put those ideas on a canvas. It can send you a bit crazy if you don't temper that with public displays of your work. Getting feedback from people, whether it's good or bad can be encouraging or insightful.
